British Cellist Tom Pickles leads a varied musical life as a performer, composer and educator.
Prior to studying at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Jan Ype Nota and Michel Strauss, he graduated with distinction from his Masters studies at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he was the recipient of multiple prizes including the Leamington Music Prize and the Delius Society Prize. His compositions reflect on our relationship with the natural world, and often explore the more spectral timbral possibilities of the cello. Recently Tom has played with orchestras including the Noord Nederlands Orkest and the Orchestra of Opera North. He also enjoys busking and making arrangements of popular songs.
